Statement of Significance
Historical value
Wattle Park was first created when the Hawthorn Tramways Trust purchased land from Mrs Eliza Welch (of Ball and Welch drapers), under the condition it was to be used as a public park. The park opened on 31 March 1917.
This Pinus brutia is one of the four original trees in Victoria , grown from seed of the 'Lone Pine' in Gallipoli and was planted on 7 May 1933. This tree is multi-trunked and has similar habit to the specimen at the Shrine.
It is located south of carpark near the Chalet.
