Smeaton House was built between 1838-1850 by the Hepburn Family.It is assumed that the garden dates back to that time.The house is on the Historic Buildings Register and classified by the National Trust. The tree is in good condition although the garden per se is very neglected. The tree is in the front garden. See also National Trust file B1114 'Smeaton House'.
