CLUNES GAS WORKS - Heritage Inventory Description
A chimney base with two firboxes is located against the sheet metal fence and comprises a solid platform measuring 6 x 1.5m across constructed from hand made bricks bonded with lime-rich mortar. Fragments of refactory bricks lie loose around the base and a thick deposit of cinders and coke forms an apron around the outside of the bickwork for a distance of up to 2m in nearly all directions. Buried 4-10cm below the surface is a paving extending from the property boundary of the cordial factory next door. The paving consists of sections of bluestone cobbles, bricks, concrete and possibly compacted soil. This paving and its associated deposits is 18m wide and 58m long, although irregularities in its edges suggest that some fabric is eith damaged or is missing.
