NEW CARSHALTON MINE - History
The New Carshalton Mine was established in August 1932. The company re-opened an old shaft. The company was reformed in 1937. Steam-powered hauling machinery was installed at the mine. The mine did not have a battery. The mine closed in 1942.NEW CARSHALTON MINE - Interpretation of Site
Quartz mine associated with Bendigo's 1930s mining boom. Mainly a mine that carried out prospecting between 1937 and 1940. Little gold was found, only 302 ounces from 2138 tons of ore.

NEW CARSHALTON MINE - Heritage Inventory Description
Intact mullock heap and shaft site with a concrete baline pond also a machinery site with a pair of concrete winding engine beds, a concrete boiler setting, iron damper plate, and mound of brick rubble (chimney stack).
Heritage Inventory Significance: Regional
SiteCard data copied on 09/12/2024: Intact mullock heap - 30m in diameter and approximately 5m high. On the heap’s east side is a filled shaft site with a concrete baling pond. The baling pond is situated on a level working platform – mullock about 3m thick. 21m north of the baling pond is an arrangement of concrete engine beds. Adjoining is a concrete boiler setting, with walls 5-1/2ft apart and 18ft long. At the north end of the boiler setting is an iron damper-plate and a short flue depression, leading to a mound of brick rubble (former chimney stack site). The bricks are machine-made. Rise in bedrock – near the Nth end of the mullock. Has given way leaving a dangerous void.
