MATLOCK TOWNSHIP - Heritage Inventory Description
Evidence of hilltop mining town: bottle dumps, domestic rubbish, street alignments, house and hotel sites, and cemetery.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Regional/State. Matlock was the centre of a lively and important mining district and was heavily dependent on the Yarra Track. The remains of the town's short, but intense, ten year life offer a glimpse of the early mining period in this district, free of the overlay of later habitation.
