Statement of Significance
This shop at 72 Hesse Street is of local historical and architectural significance to Queenscliffe as an example of retail premises built in the main street in the early years of the twentieth century. With other buildings of a comparable scale and modesty, it contributes to the overall character of the streetscape of the west side of Hesse Street.

72 Hesse Street is of timber construction and may have derived some of its fabric from the previous house on the site.(8) The building facade has a scalloped and stepped parapet which covers the high gable, and intact timber - frame shop front and recessed double entry doors. It is one of three, single storey shops in this part of Hesse Street; each reflecting different eras in the commercial development of the town.

Extract from the 2009 study
72 Hesse Street is a single-storey weatherboard shop on the west side of Hesse Street between Hobson and Stokes streets. A tall timber parapet partially conceals the view from the street of the building's gable roof which is clad in corrugated galvanised steel sheeting. The sides of the shop are clad in weatherboards. On the north side of the building is a door with a hood above it. A verandah with a convex profile roof and timber posts that extends across the shopfront facade was reinstated in the c. 1980s.
