    76 Hesse Street has had its left-hand window and its doorway widened for display purposes whilst a low dado, of glazed tiling, represents alterations of another era still. Only the cornice remains untouched; the parapet having gained three steps somewhere along the way.

    76 Hesse Street is a former branch of the Bank of Victoria on the west side of Hesse Street, between Hobson and Stokes streets. The building, which is now used as a cafe, is of brick and has a hipped roof clad in corrugated galvanised steel sheeting. The Hesse Street elevation has been altered, but elements of the original composition are still evident including the division of the facade into three bays by pilasters, its ruled render finish, and its splayed wall openings of two bays (one window and the central doorway). One window opening has been enlarged to fit a modern shop window. A high curved central pediment element has been added to the parapet; a similar element form is evident in postcard view of the c. early twentieth century.

    Alterations and additions have also been made to the rear of the building, the most recent being an atrium in the rear courtyard, which is used for dining.
