    88 Hesse Street. Queenscliff - Physical Description 1

    88 Hesse Street was constructed as a simple hip-roof cottage with two windows and a door. In front was a picket fence and centre gate.(S) Late in the nineteenth century, a convex-roof verandah was added to the front, using timber posts and cast-iron brackets. Later still, the double-palisade square-head picket fence and gate were added.(6)

    88 Hesse Street is a modest double-fronted brick Victorian single-storey house sited on the west side of Hesse Street, south of Stokes Street. The house, which is set back from the Hesse Street boundary behind a timber picket fence and garden, has a hipped roof clad in corrugated galvanised steel sheeting. A concave profile roofed verandah, clad in corrugated galvanised steel sheeting extends across the Hesse Street (east) elevation, and is supported by square timber posts embellished with decorative cast iron brackets. The street elevation is symmetrically composed with two double-hung sash windows flanking a panelled timber door.
