Booths Buildings - Physical Description 1
This building, constructed in 1881, was originally a harmonious Renaissance Revival composition, but the effect has recently been destroyed by the disastrous alteration to the northern ground floor section. The surviving section on the ground floor has Roman doric columns, similar to those on Chancery House, almost directly opposite. The upper floor facade is substantially intact with arcading supported on piers and pedestals surmounted by a string course and corbel table. The parapet is extremely refined with an interlocking circle motif balustrade. Elaborate scrolls flank the central recessed name plate which is surmounted by a small turret decorated with a decorative iron ridge. The pilasters flanking the building are finely decorated with relief work, and are topped by brackets, scrolls and delicate iron finials.
The upper facade and southern ground floor section of this building are of architectural significance, but the whole composition is destroyed by the inappropriate alterations. However, the building forms an important streetscape component to the important Lydiard Street precinct.Booths Buildings - Integrity
