WORLD WAR II COMPLEX, CAPE NELSON RD, PORTLAND WEST - History
US Airforce used property as a basecamp & radar station to monitor marine activities during the event of a feared Japanese invasion and to transmitt messages. Base camp is in present location of Pedolie House - which is built on the original slab where the lookout and gun mount was built. Australian military decided Japanese invasion would not occur and the structures were pulled down or abandoned.

U-shape structure is a military look-out dating from WWII. Gun-mount & tunnel are also related to WWII and used by U.S. troops. Area is now closed off as quarantine/quarry area.

Condition of the site is unknown, however, if it hasn't been disturbed since its last inspection by Debney and Celealovic (2001) it has potential for artefacts to be in situ dating to WWII (1940s).

Limestone calcerite walls of three-sided lookout structure, gun mount and tunnel and air-raid shelter.
Physical Conditions:
Lookout and gun mount - good. Air-raid shelter - very good.
