Veterans Description for Public
Westmeadows War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
The Westmeadows War Memorial was originally erected in the middle of the intersection of Raleigh and Fawkner Streets by the people of Broadmeadows, with funds raised on public subscription. The memorial is a tapered stone obelisk constructed from a yellow-tinged granite, possibly from a local source such as Gellibrand Hill. The tapered square column surmounts a splayed plinth and is inscribed with the names of about two dozen men who fought in the First World War. Some time in the 1970s or 80s it was relocated to the community park near the Foresters hall on Raleigh Street, when the roads were reconstructed and is now set among mature trees opposite the Westmeadows Tavern.
