    Emberson War Memorial - Physical Description 1

    The memorial was originally in the form of a gateway and a ramp with piers and metal handrails. The central pier bore a shield with the inscription 'in memory of my son'. All that remains of the memorial today is the concrete ramped walkway inlayed with a boomerang and map of Australia. The inscription 'other diggers' is almost indecipherable.

    Emberson War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public

    The Emberson Memorial, on Monbulk Road, was erected 1923 by one of Kallista's original settlers - Charles Emberson. Emberson built the memorial in memory of his son William, who was killed while serving with the 23 battalion AIF during the First World War. Private Emberson was 33 when he died of wounds received at Paschendale on October 20th 1917. Emberson had also served with the Royal Naval Reserve in South Africa from 1899 to 1902, and his service is remembered on the Kallista War Memorial. The Emberson Memorial is a rare example of a memorial which was erected in memory of a single person.

However a plaque now stands next to the ramp with a history of the memorial and the Embersons.
