Koroit War Memorial - Physical Description 1
Simple obelisk - granite or bluestone? The base is rock-faced; the upper part of the base and the obelisk are smooth finished. The memorial has a low fence around it with rock-faced bluestone posts and railing with steps on all four sides.
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
This is similar to the other war memorials in the Shire - for example at Chatsworth, Hexham, Ellerslie, and Framlingham. The memorial at Hexham is in its original state unlike that at Koroit which has been given a new concrete balustrade. The memorial at Koroit was possibly completed considerably later compared to the other towns in the Shire.Koroit War Memorial - Physical Conditions

Koroit War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
The Koroit War Memorial, in High Street, Koroit, was erected in 1928 and remodelled in 1990. The memorial takes the form of a simple Egyptian stone obelisk set on a stone base. The memorial was dedicated to local men who lost their lives as soldiers in the First World War, but inscriptions were added for locals who fought in the Second World War and the Vietnam War.
The memorial was proposed for Koroit by at least 1921, when it was recorded that 'Funds are being raised by public entertainments and subscriptions about £300 being at present in hand'. Fund-raising continued in 1922, but there were still insufficient funds collected for the completion of the memorial on the proposed lines. Funds were relatively slow in coming and requests were repeatedly made in the local paper, the Koroit Sentinel. The large Irish Catholic population at Koroit and the fact that the area had demonstrated the largest 'No' vote in the conscription referenda suggests that there was less interest in erecting war memorials here than in other towns, for example Mortlake. Nonetheless, the memorial was finally completed in 1928 and sited in the Botanic Gardens.
In 1990, the war memorial was redeveloped by raising the base by about 1 metre, and adding concrete walls at either end as well as chain railing and two flagpoles. Following the completion of these additions, a local ceremony took place at which the memorial was rededicated by Victorian RSL president Bruce Ruxton.
