GREENVALE FARM - History
The fomer "Greenvale Farm" was part of Lot 5, Parish of Bellarine. Original purchaser was Mr J. Williamson, during the mid to late 1840s. Over the next 20 years the property had various managers until Williamson's son-in-law Thomas Grigg in 1874. At least 360 acres were owned by Grigg and two leases over the property. Greenvale farm was known throughout the district for its productivity and use of most modern machinery, growing several crops and managing a dairy. In 1906, 304 acres of Greenvale estate came under Closer Settlement Act. The property was divided up into 304 lots and purchased by six applicants. Greenvale Farm lay within lot. by at least 1960 Greenvale farm became "Springfield" owned by a Mr Fowler. By 1990 the house/farm site was in disrepair and was soon demolished. The property is now owned by The Kuc's of "Baie Park".
GREENVALE FARM - Interpretation of Site
Property covered much of the land between Coriyule Road and the Bay. The main farm house was accessed via a track which led from Jetty road, at the southern edge of the creek and ran parallel to the creek for approx 900m. The farm block covered at least two acres, and comprised several outbuildings, pine windbreaks and an orchard. By 1966 the homestead is clearly vis. (aerial photo) with three buildings, orchards, windbreaks and the driveway from Jetty road. By 1978, three buildings, windbreaks and no access road. By 1990 three buildings, windbreaks (reduced), orchard and virtually no driveway, but with a new track leading from McDermott Road.
The site in 2004 is covered in weeds with corrugated iron visible and various mixed junk. The site is defined by windbreaks and there is a gravel track, posts beneath the trees and an old telephone post. The orchard is not visible nor are any foundations
