Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Hawthorn Church of the Immaculate Conception Catholic - Memorial Window Description & History
This is one of the comparatively small number of war commemorative windows found in Catholic churches in Victoria. It was ordered from the eminent Birmingham firm, John Hardman & Co., embodies the decorative Hardman style that developed after the First World War, with subdued colours offset by elaborate ornament. In 1922 several windows were installed in the Lady Chapel of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, including St. Patrick, installed to commemorate James. Armstrong Mahony's war service has yet been found. It islikely that he served with an overseas unit.
