Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Kangaroo Flat R.S.L. Hall - Memorial Window Description & History
Jacob 'Jack' Valstar was born in the Netherlands and came to Australia post-Second World War where he took a position as a glass-painter at Brooks, Robinson & Co. He joined WD.Mason Pty. Ltd., Bendigo in 1955 and was responsible for their figure windows from then until his retirement. Although a relatively simple design, this small sepia-toned window is an example of the glass-painter's art, and a suitable memorial for the non-denominational location of the Returned Servicemen's League. The attached image shows Jacob Valstar and Walter Mason, with the completed panel in the Mason workshop. Images courtesy of Mike Butcher and Dennis O'Hoy.
