Statement of Significance
What is significant?
A pair of Tasmanian Blue Gums growing on a private property in the Green Wedge Zone of Pakenham.
How is it significant?
These Tasmanian Blue Gums are significant for scientific reasons at the Regional level.
Why is it significant?
These trees are scientifically significant for their outstanding size. They have reached impressive heights and circumferences for the south-east region of greater Melbourne and are in range with other trees on the Register. Furthermore, Tree 2 is the third tallest Tasmanian Blue Gum located in Victoria to date, following the two tallest located in Ballarat.
It is unusual to find a planted stand of this size in a semi-urban environment. The trunks are immense, and the lower sections are covered in heavy, gnarly bark. The smooth branches vary in colour from grey to white to cream and pink. The trees also currently provide habitat and hollows are forming in the branches and trunk.
