STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
'Hillside', a single storey homestead built of fine axed basalt with a slate roof and later timber verandah was erected in 1862 by Captain Alexander Fyfe, a local builder and merchant. This eclectic Victorian Italianate style residence was occupied by the Hon. James Henty until 1865 when Alexander White purchased the property. White's descendants still reside at the homestead and have been prominent in municipal government and local community activities since 1865. The homestead complex has been substantially altered by construction of an early 20th century Art Nouvean style verandah. The complex is an interesting homestead in the Geelong region with notable successive owners.
