STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The Montpellier Service Basins and Water Reserves at 100 Scenic Road are historically significant at a LOCAL level. They are associated with the further development of Geelongs water supply between 1900 and 1970. The Montpellier Service Basins and Water Reserves at 100 Scenic Road are scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. The water basins illustrate early 20th century technology employed in a major water supply process that is still extant today. The method of pipeline construction with the use of the aerial tramway, illustrate a technological process that was creative and advanced for its time. The Montpellier Service Basins and Water Reserves at 100 Scenic Road are of LOCAL significance. Statement of Cultural Significance

Barwon Water Montpellier Basin & Water Reserve Basins 1, 2 & 3 - Physical Description 1
The site at 100 Scenic Road comprises the Montpellier Service Basins consist of three water basins, surrounded by open grassland and early exotic and native trees. Basin nos. 1, 2, and 3 are located on the east side of Scenic Road the subject site, whilst Basin no.4 is on the west side outside the subject site. There are valve house and pump room structures on the site. The original water basin no.1 is split into two. One side is concrete lined, the other side being lined with a sand filter.4 This basin is currently not in use.4 Basin no.2 is currently in use and is earthen with a bluestone rip rap around the splash zone only. 4 Basin no.3 is not in use and consists of the same construction as basin no.2. 4 Description
