GENERAL STORE (RUINS) - Physical Description 1
The former General Store on the Hamilton-Port Fairy Road is located immediately to the south of the later bluestone General Store. The building is in a ruinous condition, with the roof removed, and the walls in various stages of collapse. The remains of a substantial structure are still clearly distinguishable.
The store was constructed of rendered bluestone rubble, comprising at least six rooms, with a verandah at the front. A photograph taken prior to 1972 shows that the roof was of corrugated iron.
A number of modern outbuildings remain on the site, including a rudimentary house clad in corrugated iron and aluminium sheeting. An old stone tank stand remains at the rear, together with a number of low stone retaining walls for the garden, which appear to be early 20th century.GENERAL STORE (RUINS) - Historical Australian Themes
