Statement of Significance
The row of four shops with dwellings above at nos. 1033-39 Mount Alexander Road were built by the developer, C.G. Ward, in 1926-27. They are representative buildings of their type and period, recalling the period during which the Essendon North shopping centre was established to service its suburban hinterland.

SHOPS - Physical Description 1
A row of four two storeyed interwar shops with cantilevered verandahs and white tuckpointed red brick walls relieved by clincker bands and having a simple stepped parapet profile characteristic of the period. The shop front at number 1039 is original and retains its tiled stallboard and copper frame manufactured by Stevens with muffled glass upper lights.

Condition: Sound. Integrity:High, shop fronts partly defaced, upper level windows to no. 1039 replaced, some overpainting of upper level facade.
