Statement of Significance
The State School at Ascot Vale West (No.4025) is historically of interest and aesthetically important. It is interesting historically because it demonstrates through its architectural form both the scale of provision and period during which the government facilitated the construction of state funded educational facilities in the locality. It is aesthetically important (Criterion E) because its architectural treatment is highly representative of an important stylistic stream in the work of the Victorian Public Works Department during the 1920s when the economic and other advantages of the Classical styles caused them to gain ground at the expense of the preceding Edwardian styles with their emphasis on domestic forms and ornamentation. The Ascot Vale West School is a substantial example of a building conceived in this manner.
