Statement of Significance
The former Presbyterian Church, now Uniting Church, at no. 64 Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds, was built to the competition winning design of architects Beasley and Little in 1896-97. It is of aesthetic and social importance. It is aesthetically important (Criterion E) as a highly successful design in full polychrome comparing closely with the former Congregational Church (now Uniting Church) of 1887-88 at 72 Hotham Street, Elsternwick, also designed by the same architects as a result of the submission of competitive designs. It compares at the State level with the former Wesleyan Church, Brunswick, of 1872; the former Wesleyan Church, Ballarat, of 1884 and the former Congregational Church, Hawthorn. It is, however, of a comparatively later date, although it may well represent the best of Beasley and Little's ecclesiastical work. The building has social value (Criterion G) for its role as a place of worship in the community since 1897.

A prominent late polychrome brick church in the Gothic Revival mode with nave, transepts, small spire and octagonal turrets and pinnacles to the west end. The facade has a lancet arched west window decorated in the Early English manner surmounting two doorways with flanking arcades. It is given emphasis by red and white brick voussoirs with striking diaper work at the impost level and with similar though less conspicuous patterned brickwork in a band at sill level. The buttresses have pinnacle terminations and the turrets and spire have faceted slate roofs with iron finials. The main roof is also of slate with terra cotta ridge cresting.
