42 Heyington Place - Physical Description 1
This house illustrates the innovative use of Old English domestic architecture in a design which also utilises several more modern forms such as the long vertical window in the shingled upper storey and the large tapered chimney with ornamental cap. The house reflects a blend of Craftsman Bungalow and English Cottage styles for which Ballantyne became well known.1 The large roof is clad in pan tiles and is divided into several hip roofed sections. The porch entrance is unusual with heavy timber forked supports framing the irregularity shaped alcove. A new bay window has been installed in a front wall, which is rendered and contrasts with the tiled wall above the entrance. This unusual house demonstratesthe use of a combination of Craftsman, English Cottage and more modern idioms, representing the diversity of architectural styles in the inter-war period.
