Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The site of the Toora Tin Mines and the associated water races, established 1884 and operating until c.1942, at Creamery Valley and Woomera Road, Toora.
How is it significant?
The former Toora Tin Mines and associated water racesare of local historic and scientific significance to South Gippsland Shire.
Why are they significant?
Historically, they demonstrate the early ill-fated attempts to realise the economic potential of the region.
Scientifically, it is archaeologically significant for its potential to yield further information about the mining processes carried out. (Criterion C)
