JUMBUNNA RAILWAY LINE VIADUCT - History
In 1894, the Jumbunna Coal Mining Co commenced operations at Jumbunna, and was serviced by a Victorian Railways branch line from the coal creek (Korumbarra) branch line. This line was later extended 2 3/8 miles from the Jumbarra township terminus to Outtrim and opened on 5th February, 1896. A deep gully between Jumbunna township and the Jumbunna mine had to be spanned, and a large earthen viaduct was constructed. This was a considerable feat, accomplished with manual labour.JUMBUNNA RAILWAY LINE VIADUCT - Interpretation of Site
The viaduct is part of a series of side-cuts, cuttings and viaducts that mark the Jumbunna-Outtrim railway line. The source of the large quantities of earth used is visible in the landscape, in the borrow pits and adjacent cuttings.
