Statement of Significance
The Victoria Street Uniting Church and Hall at 21 & 21B Victoria Street and 1 Louisa Street, Coburg.
How is it significant?
The Victoria Street Uniting Church and Hall at Victoria and Louisa Streets, Coburg is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Of historic significance, for its direct associations with the Coburg Presbyterian church which first established a congregation in Coburg prior to 1850, and built its first church in 1852. Also, for its ability to demonstrate the work of local architect Keith Reid, who designed churches in Moreland in the late 1950s and early 1960s. (AHC Criteria G.1 & H.1)
Of aesthetic significance, as a very good example of 1960s ecclesiastical architecture in Coburg, which demonstrates the typical features of church architecture of that period, including a rectangular plan and an emphasis on verticality. Its elegant belltower is a good example of type. (AHC Criterion E.1)

UNITING CHURCH & HALL - Physical Description 1
The Victoria Street Uniting Church and Hall are typical examples of 1960s ecclesiastical architecture.
The church has a traditional rectangular plan, with a side entrance onto Louisa Street (east elevation). It is cream brick building with a tiled gable roof with projecting eaves, pronounced over thenorth and south elevations. There are white painted concrete or (rendered brick) vertical fins to the primary elevations. Verticality is further emphasised by the elegant cream brick belltower, cruciform in plan, which is capped witha slender copper-clad spire. Other features include: small rectangular window openings puncturing the east elevation; the zig-zag expression of the entrance roofline; a low cream brick wall to the properties boundaries along Louisa and Victoria Streets; and a similarly expressed cream brick hall. At the south end of the church is a now somewhat disused tennis court.
