ELTHAM STUDY STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE (2001):
This tree is significant for its size, age and good condition. It is the oldest tree of this species noted within the Shire. It is also located in the vicinity of the Hurst Family Cemetery and Allwood and, may well be related to plantings in either location.
REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE (with AHC criteria)
LONDON PLANE TREE is significant to Hurstbridge:
- for its size, age and good condition, being the oldest tree of this species identified within the Shire (Criterion B2, 02);... for its landscape contribution to a small group of diverse historic sites, inclUding the Hurst Family Cemetery and Allwood(Criterion A3);
- for its possible link with an early Avenue of Honour (Criterion A4).

This tree is a large mature specimen of good form and in good health. It is located in the road reserve in the precinct of the Hurst family cemetery and Allwood.

This tree is a large mature specimen of good form and in good health. It is located in the road reserve in the precinct of the Hurst family cemetery and Allwood.
REVISED OR EXTENDED DESCRIPTON:
The tree is 800-900mm diameter and 21m high; it is located at 340426E, 5832694E in front of a the Hurstbridge Child &maternal Health Centre.
'Platanus x acerifolia' 'Used as a street tree for many years, this fast-growing species can reach 120 ft (36 m). It can withstand poor conditions and is resistant to leaf blight; however, the roots can lift paving and the large, bright green, leathery leaves can block small drains.
