Statement of Significance

A substantial mansion of the Boom Period, using an exaggerated and distorted sixteenth century Italian vocabulary to create a ponderous and disturbing effect. With special reference to the south elevation, the bow window with attached columns on the west, the stained glass, the heterogenous interior decoration including early twentieth century work, and especially the art nouveau timber and plaster work of the billiard room. The classification excludes more recent interior modification and notes the damaging effect of the immediately surrounding development.
