Statement of Significance
Church:
A small brick church built in 1865 has associations with many of the early and notable residents of the Mornington Peninsula. It combines Gothic massing with round-headed windows as a primitive (or Transitional) Gothic Style . The chancel and vestry were added in 1913.
Classified: 09/12/1971.
Organ:
A single-manual organ of seven stops built in 1873 by George Fincham for Christ Church, Echuca and moved to Middle park earlier this century. The instrument has an unusual crenellated cedar case, incorporating four flats of spotted metal pipes placed within Gothic arches, thought to be unique amongst Fincham's surviving work. It remains largely unaltered from the original, retaining its pipework, action and console.
Organ moved from St Silas Anglican Church, Park Road, Middle Park to St James the Less in 2004.
