Statement of Significance

Built about 1850 on a 22 acre block for William Montgomerie Bell (1813-1867 ), pastoralist, merchant, churchman and civic leader. After sub-dividing in 1854 Bell sold the house and ten acres to William Easey, auctioneer and pastoralist, who by 1859 had extended the house from 5 rooms to 17.
The housewas owned from 1860 to 1916 by George Kirk, pastoralist, merchant and politician, and his family; in the 1920s by Dr Sydney Sewell; and from 1966 by Mr C R Macdonald.
