Statement of Significance

The Drouin Cooperative Butter Factory building is important historically at a State level with important historical associations and of significant technological importance. It is an interesting example of adjoining dairy industry buildings, each representing a major era in the development of the Gippsland dairy industry. The buildings are significant because their prominent location demonstrates the importance of dairying in this region while the differing styles illustrate the manner in which a growing company responded to technological change and rapid market expansion. The degree of intactness is rare for the building which dated from 1904. Together the buildings gain from their association with W H Bartram, an early dairy entrepreneur, and Bill Kraft, a leader in dairy product marketing.
