MURRABIT PRE-EMPTIVE RIGHT - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site:
1848- Reedy Lake squatting run taken up by Curlewis and Campbell. 1849- Taken over by W. Splatt. 1851- Reedy Lake subdivided, Murrabit formed on land. 1851- Lake Boga Aboriginal Reserve and Mission Paddock Gazetted. 1856- Mission closure. 1856/7- Mission land incorporated into C.H. Edden's Murrabit P.R. 1858/62- Managed, then owned, by T.A. Browne. 1863 onwards- successive rural owners.
MURRABIT PRE-EMPTIVE RIGHT - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: Series of features relating to mid nineteenth century rural settlement in the Lake Boga area. Large number of Aboriginal sites (continuous scatters and patches of materials across the site) combined with vast scatters of glass and ceramics over similar area suggests possible contact associations. (1 positive glass scraper identified with invasive retouch along one margin)

MURRABIT PRE-EMPTIVE RIGHT - Heritage Inventory Description
Artefact scatters, features and structures associated with the former Murrabit Pre-emptive Right (from 1858). Also - large number of Aboriginal prehistoric sites and some sites possibly relating to the Lake Boga Aboriginal Mission which was on the same land (1851-56).
Heritage Inventory Significance: Features associated with previous and recent Aboriginal occupation are important to Wamba Wamba community. Sheds and cemetery relating to T.A. Browne's occupation are important - sheds examples of mid-nineteenth century frontier architecture.

Heritage Inventory Site Features: Scatters of glass and ceramics. Homestead complex (1923) with blacksmiths shed and stable/workers hut site. Bridge site - marked on 1856 map. Woolshed. Cemetery - marked on 1869 map. Fence - upright posts remaining. Brick scatter. Sheep yard/boiling yard - marked on 1869 map. Brick scatter at site of workers hut - marked on 1869 map. Location of sheep yard marked on 1850s map (pre-Murrabit). Route of former road (summer weather) to Goldfields - 1850s map./nHeritage Inventory Key Components: Blacksmiths workshop, woolshed, fences (wooden), sheep yards, cemetery, brick scatters, ceramic and glass scatters associated with Murrabit. (during T.A. Browne's time there: T.A. Browne's alias: Rolf Boldrewood who wrote Robbery Under Arms) (stables and workers huts at homestead site were recently demolished)
