HISTORICAL ARTEFACT SCATTER AND QUARRIES - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The area in which the site is located was originally part of the Carlsrushe pastoral lease, until the run was divided in 1839, at which time it became part of the St Agnes run. Parish plans show that this area was subdivided in 1855 and the block on which the site is located became allotment 262 in the Parish of Lauriston, Shire of Dalhousie. It was purchased by N.C. Wynne on 17/1/1855. The artefacts would date the site to the mid to late 1800s. Quarrying of bluestone took place in the area from the 1860s until the early part of this century. Stone was used locally and was distributed widely for public buildings in Melbourne, rural Victoria and interstate.Heritage Inventory Description
