Heritage Inventory History of Site: Constructed in the 1860s or 1870s. Early photos and postcards, from the 1890s, show the system in use. The structures have deteriorated badly and no longer function.Heritage Inventory Description
FOREST CREEK GRANITE FALLS - Heritage Inventory Description
A series of granite "falls" or "drops" constructed along Forest Creek. They were designed to control water flow into the Expedition Pass Channel.
Heritage Inventory Significance: These structures are remnants of Victoria's first major rural water supply system, the Coliban Water Supply System. They are of high local historical significance.
Informants: Barbara James, Golden Point, RSD 181, Castlemaine, 3450./nRecorded by: Jeremy Smith, Andrea Murphy, Vincent Clark. Date Recorded: September 199 Heritage Inventory Site Features: A total of nineteen structures built across the creek over a distance of approximately 500 metres. Constructed of granite, of which only the capping stones have been dressed. The structures are 2 to 3 metres high and one metres thick. The second to last structure, north, downstream, now carries a bridge.
