CALDER HIGHWAY, RAVENSWOOD, ARTEFACT SCATTER - History
UnknownCALDER HIGHWAY, RAVENSWOOD, ARTEFACT SCATTER - Interpretation of Site
Heritage Inventory Interpretation: This may have been the site of a hotel or an unlicensed grog shop on the road to the Bendigo goldfields. The number and variety of artefacts support such a theory, although there is no evidence of a structure, which may have been a tent or a timber shack. There is possibly a dump of historic artefacts.
Heritage Inventory Description
CALDER HIGHWAY, RAVENSWOOD, ARTEFACT SCATTER - Heritage Inventory Description
A scatter of historical artefacts, apparently eroding from a shallow drainage line. There is a wide variety of glass, stoneware and ceramic fragments.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Moderate archaeological significance. The number and variety of artefacts on the surface indicates that there may be in situ archaeological deposits, including the possible traces of an early structure. Low local historical significance.
Recorded by: Andrea Murphy, Jeremy Smith.
Heritage Inventory Site Features: Artefact scatter.
