TOOLERN CREEK RUINS - History
Very little is known about these ruins. The original structures were constructed around the 1840s by Dr Cottrell or Dr Walton and the buildings were destroyed by vandals in the 1930s (from previous site card, 1994). Further reserach is required.TOOLERN CREEK RUINS - Interpretation of Site
The site may have been a house with associated (separate) gates or other type of outbuilding, possibly a stable. Positioned on a flood plain, the area would have been furtile for farming purposes. At present the original purpose of the site is unknown.
TOOLERN CREEK RUINS - Archaeological Significance
The structural remains represented are in a ruinous condition with little integrity to the above ground site features. Although now it is public land, the site was form many years on private land and therefore may not have been subjected to much ground disturbance through artefact scavengers. Documented evidence for the site would exist but is yet to be located. Due predominantly to its potential age and undisturbed ground layers the archaeological significance is high.
TOOLERN CREEK RUINS - Historical Significance
If documentation was located to suggest that these ruins do date to the early 1840s they would be historically significanct as a representation of early European activity within this region. At present the historical significance of this site is assessed as medium with potential to be high with further research.
