THE CROSSING FORD - History
None found.THE CROSSING FORD - Interpretation of Site
Former creek crossing point along Kororoit Creek. Two fords were recorded in 1994 (see earlier site card). Evidence of only one could be located. It is possible that one ford was destroyed with the construction of the new bridge in this location or it may be obscured due to poor visibility in the creek and reeds.
THE CROSSING FORD - Archaeological Significance
The ford that could be located has a low level of archaeological potential and appears to have been disturbed, although the 1994 site card also records levels of disturbance. The site has the potential to provide further information about creek crossings and transport networks in the region and the development of road making from the late 19th century.
THE CROSSING FORD - Historical Significance
The site is of local historical significance as an early creek crossing point and forms part of the arly road network throughout the region. The site remains isolated from its original context along an early transport route as housing development has occured on either side of the creek. A new road bridge is located around the ford site, maintaining a creek crossing in this location.
