KILLAWARRA STATE FOREST ARTEFACT SCATTER - History
There is no information regarding the site in general histories of Wangaratta and/or any Parish Plans.
It is known that as a part of a program of protecting Box-Ironbark forests throughout Victoria, the Killawarra State Forest became part of the Warby Range-Ovens River National Park in 2002. Prior to this, the forest was heavily logged for its Ironbark and any settlement in the area was likely to be associated with this occupationKILLAWARRA STATE FOREST ARTEFACT SCATTER - Interpretation of Site
The site comprises a very concentrated dump of early 20th century domestic rubbish and its presence in the Killawarra State Forest is consistent with the remains of a very short term logging camp. As a result sub-surface archaeological remains are less likely.

This artefact dump is not significant and appears to be a short term depositional area.

The site is significant through its association with 20th century logging camps and/or other similarly ephemeral camps.
Heritage Inventory Description
KILLAWARRA STATE FOREST ARTEFACT SCATTER - Heritage Inventory Description
The condition of the site is highly consistent with the original inventory description of this early 20th century rubbish dump. It continues to comprise a collection of various items including: enamel mugs, tins, antiseptic & poison bottles, beer bottles, soft drink bottles, cosmetic bottles, tin oil container, kerosene tins, flash lamp, ceramics including large dinner & service plates. Some ceramics & bottles tentatively dated to 1910-1920s.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Undisturbed site possibly associated with logging history of Killawarra.
