KILLAWARRA STATE FOREST 3 - History
There is no information regarding the site in general histories of Wangaratta and/or any Parish Plans.
It is known that, as a part of a program of protecting Box-Ironbark forests throughout Victoria, the Killawarra State Forest became part of the Warby Range-Ovens River National Park in 2002. Prior to this, the forest was heavily logged for its Ironbark and any settlement in the area was likely to be associated with this occupation.
The 2010 inspection suggests that the site has been removed since the original survey.
KILLAWARRA STATE FOREST 3 - Interpretation of Site
A truck dating to post 1920s, possibly associated to logging history of Killawarra State Forest; but now removed.
KILLAWARRA STATE FOREST 3 - Archaeological Significance
The truck and associated rubbish have been removed from the location and it is unlikely that the site has further archaeological potential.
Heritage Inventory Description
KILLAWARRA STATE FOREST 3 - Heritage Inventory Description
Forested reserve, part of the Killawara State Forest, and adjacent to a forestry track that was previously inventoried as a site holding the remains of a truck chassis (C. 1920s) as well as a scatter of tins & parts of leather shoes. These remains could not be relocated in the location described (and within 200 m of the recorded co-ordinates), most of which has undergone remedial works, including the construction of new fire breaks and erosion works. The potential is that both the chassis and associated rubbish had been deliberately removed during these works. The site is unlikely to have further archaeological potential (also see Killawarra State Forest 4).
Heritage Inventory Significance: Undisturbed site dating possibly to post-1920s, associated with logging history of Killawarra forest.
