39 King Street, Queenscliff - Physical Description 1
During 1886, Thomas improved the house, possibly adding the extra gabled wing to the front and erecting the convex roof veranduh.(4) He then leased it to Thomas Walker who was a plumber and continued to lease it Gilt until past the turn of the century.(S) Cement balustrading has been added to the verandah, probably in this century, and minor alterations exist elsewhere, otherwise the house retains the basis of its original early form and scale presenting a gabled variation of the Queenscliff hip roof vernacular
39 King Street, Queenscliff - Physical Description 2
Extract from the 2009 study
39 King Street is a modest single-storey detached rendered brick Victorian house with a transverse gable roof clad in corrugated galvanised steel sheeting. There is a low brick chimney at the east end of this roof. Another transverse gable roof extends parallel to this at its rear. This section of the house is also brick, and has a plain brick chimney at its west end.
The King Street (north) elevation is symmetrically composed. A verandah with a convex profile roof and supported by square timber posts extends across the street facing elevation and in line with the street boundary. The verandah has timber pickets forming its balustrade, these replaced non-original cement balustrading present in 1984. The house has a central door that is flanked by timber frame double-hung sash windows. A brick addition, of recent origin, has been built to the rear of the two earlier stages.
