Broadmeadows Australian Imperial Forces Camp - Veterans Description for Public
Broadmeadows Australian Imperial Forces Camp was used as a mobilisation and remount depot in the First World War. There are few remains of this period. The Second World War buildings remain however and these include typical military accommodation for example, P1 huts. Because the Australian role in the First World War was primarily to provide infantry as part of a larger British military force overseas, there was therefore little need for extensive military establishments in Australia for anything other than basic training and marshalling. A number of camps were established for these purposes. Australian Imperial Forces Camps such as Langwarrin, Broadmeadows and Seymour had some semi-permanent buildings, mainly for administration, ablutions and cooking, but the majority of accommodation was still in tents.
