WRIGHT HOUSE SITE - CARDINIA LAKES FEATURE 2 - History
Site of former Wright homestead (c1860-early 1900s). No structures were present prior to this date. The first Wright homestead was a small wooden house, possibly with two rooms. All that remains above ground is a well and jonquils that emerge each year.WRIGHT HOUSE SITE - CARDINIA LAKES FEATURE 2 - Interpretation of Site
Structural and artefact remains are likely to relate to Wright occupation. Removal of the topsoil over an area of 20x20 metres is likely to reveal further in situ archaeological deposits and define the dimensions of the house's structural remains.
Heritage Inventory Description
WRIGHT HOUSE SITE - CARDINIA LAKES FEATURE 2 - Heritage Inventory Description
Former house site of William Wright and family. (c 1860-early 1900s) During sub-surface testing, two transects were dug in the estimated location of the house site. These revealed some structural components and artefact material. Artefacts date to around the turn of the century.
Transects are located to the north and south of a well thought to be associated with the historic Wright house. Components of the site include the well, historic bottle dump, cobbled areas (possible platform), structural remains (ie brick fragments, nails, hinge, wood) and post holes.
Physical Conditions: Fair. High likelihood of further archaeological sub-surface deposits.
