Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Corio Geelong Grammar School All Saints' Anglican Chapel - Memorial Window Description & History
The Malaya window was second in a series of four small rectangular windows in the west wall that focus on the Pacific War - Malaya, Singapore and South East Asia - all theatres in which Australia, represented in the fourth window, played a pivotal role. As with all the windows in the aisle series, there was an emphasis on Australian flora as an ornamental device and in this instance it was the pincushion hakea. The small vignette in the upper section of the window features a lightning bolt, piercing clouds in a deep blue sky as it headed downwards. It appears to be referring to the gift of the word of God, asinscribed below. As in all the windows, the almost monochromatic design is relieved by a small touch of striking colour, in this case a small blue flame towards the base.
