Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Melbourne Boys' High School - Memorial Window Description & History
The Argus reported that Melbourne High School proposed to erect a First World War memorial window and mural tablets to record the former students who enlisted for active service, however this memorial was not commissioned, and it was not until May 1956 that a 'tribute to Old Boys who served in the Second World War' was unveiled by Sir Alan Ramsay. It was one of two windows that the School's principal, George Langley, had been keen to install on the central staircase: the other window commemorated Frank Tate, long-serving Director of Education in Victoria and founder of its education system. Alan Sumner (1910-1994) was commissioned to design and make both windows.
