Stained Glass Window at Gardiner St. Andrew's Presbyterian [now Uniting] Church - Memorial Window Text
O God of Bethel, by Whose hand Thy people still are fed Who through this weary pilgrimage Hast all our fathers led: Our vows, our prayers, we now present Before Thy Throne of Grace God of our Fathers! Be the God Of their suceeding race. Spread Thy covenant around Till all our wanderings cease And at our Father's loved abode Our souls arrive in peace. Such blessings from Thy gracious hand Our humble prayers implore And Thou shalt be our chosen God And portion evermore.

Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Gardiner St. Andrew's Presbyterian [now Uniting] Church - Memorial Window Description & History
Old St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (1856), Rathdowne Street, Carlton was taken down in 1938 and the stones re-erected the following year at the site of the 'new' St. Andrew's on the corner of Burke and Malvern Roads. Although it was altered its main features were preserved, including the 1914-1918 Honour Roll and a small original window of The Burning Bush. When the church opened for worship the world was already at war. Stained glass artist, David Taylor Kellock (1913-1988), made many commemorative windows after the Second World War, although few had such a lengthy text. The text was a hymn, 'O God of Bethel!' by John Logan, often included in children's services. Chaplain-General, the Rev. AH Stewart unveiled the window and an honour roll at the morning service on 12 November 1950.
