Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Camberwell St. John's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
The three-light Nativity window to the men of the parish who served and died in the First World War was lost in the fire that razed the building in 1955. St. Columba was one of a set of three memorial windows in the narthex dedicated to the men from the parish who served in the First and Second World Wars. The text was chosen to pay tribute to the Navy servicemen of the parish.
Stained glass artist, Mervyn Napier Waller (1893-1972) was commissioned to design and make the windows in 1961, a few years after he had completed the major memorial of fifteen lights for the Hall of Memory, Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
A Book of Remembrance was set below in a glass case, a single page open, with each name simply writtten without rank, unit or honour.
