Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Camberwell St. John's Anglican Church - Memorial Window Description & History
The Rev. Roscoe Wilson proposed the Nativity as subject for the window, in accordance with the scheme of windows adopted for the church. It was designed and made by Melbourne's leading stained glass artist, William Montgomery, and installed in the north transept, opposite the Ascension in the south. At the unveiling by the Hon. Littleton Groom, the vicar explained that the window was intended to convey Suffering, Victory and Honour. Mr. Groom paid tribute 'to the great part played by the soldiers who were that day being honoured'. The window cost £300, the majority of which was raised by the Ladies' Guild. The window was lost when fire engulfed the building in 1955.
