STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
'Carrick' is an early weatherboard Victorian cottage probably dating from the 1850s. It has a high standard of integrity.
It is of historic and social significance for the local Portarlington community .
Carrick is located on The Esplanade with marine views. It has a mature Moreton Bay fig tree in the garden, probably an early planting. The cottage has significance for its association with a number of well known Portarlington residents including around the turn of the century local shopkeeper and entrepreneur, PM Brown.
It is of LOCAL cultural significance.

"Carrick" - Physical Description 1
The site has a white picket fence on the north and west boundaries, gardens and a mature Morton Bay fig tree, and a view over Port Phillip Bay. The small Victorian timber frame and weatherboard clad cottage has a steep pitch gable roof, clad in slate , which continues in an unbroken line to the verandah. It has an internal white painted brick chimney.
The north elevation has a plain Regency verandah, with four turned timber posts and timber floorboards. The central four panel timber door has side lights and panels , and two doublehung bay windows with weatherboards to sill level, on either side of the door. The west elevation has five multiple pane casement windows, and decorative timber bargeboards and finials on the gable end.
