STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
'Spray Farm', formerly 'Ellenvale', was built in 1851 to the designs of John Young, a Geelong architect. The homestead, a single storey brick villa, was erected for James Conway Langdon and was acquired in 1862 by Geelong Woolbroker Charles Ibbotson.
'Spray Farm' at Drysdale is one of the oldest pastoral properties on the Bellarine peninsula and certainly of great architectural importance as a distinctive homestead by John Young. Both JC Langdon and Charles Ibbotson were influential Geelong settlers. This early brick villa with slate roof and encircling verandah enclosed with mechanical louvre screens, has innovative stable additions of 1875 by noted Geelong architects Davidson and Henderson.
